Maintain Your License

Renewal

  • Indiana Professional Engineers must renew their license by July 31 in even numbered years.
  • The renewal fee is currently $100.
  • Engineers must have at least 30 continuing education hours to renew their license; one hour must be in ethics and one hour must be in statutes and standards.
  • Renewal notices are sent out 90 days in advance of the expiration date. Renewals may be done online or via paper.

For more detailed information, visit the PLA website.

ONLINE Renewal Process with IPLA

The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency implemented an online renewal system that some find a bit challenging.  To help you navigate this system, Dr. Vince Drnevich put together a slide presentation that walks you through what to expect as you renew your license.

Download Dr. Drnevich's instructions.  Thank you again, Vince, for continuing to educate all of us.

Continuing Education

  • All Indiana PEs must earn 30 hours of continuing education every two years - one hour must be in Ethics and one must be in Statutes and Standards.
  • Courses must be either provided by an organization referenced in IC 25-1-4-0.2 OR approved by the Board. To search for a list of Board approved providers, follow this link, then enter "Engineering Board" for Profession and "CE Provider - Engineering" for License Type.  NSPE and ISPE are both approved providers in statute.
  • Engineers may carryover up to 15 CEs from one renewal period to the next.
  • Engineers who become licensed in the first year of a renewal period only need to earn 15 hours; those licensed for the first time in the second year do not need to earn any hours in that renewal period.
