Chapter Meetings The Chapter meets two or three times each year and the members are notified by e-mail. Meetings are normally held in Anderson, Chesterfield, Marion or Muncie.
Chapter History The ISPE publication broke the news to Hoosier PE's, in December 1955, that a new chapter (of ISPE) was authorized. At Muncie on 2 December 1955, ten PE's signed a petition for the formation of the "Muncie" chapter. The ISPE Chapter Activities Committee had requested the Anthony Wayne Chapter to form a new chapter at Marion. The plan was expanded to include Muncie and Anderson.
Officials of the ISPE attended the organizational meeting at the Roberts Hotel, Muncie. The next morning Robert W. Bachi, PE carried the petition to the ISPE Board meeting at Indianapolis, Indiana - Saturday 3 December 1955. The petition was approved.
The first meeting of the new chapter was held 9 December 1955 at the Muncie YMCA. The area of the chapter was Blackford, Grant, Delaware, Jay, Madison, and Randolph counties. Fouteen members were gained was Thelma Patterson, Executive Secretary, ISPE, transfered members from the area counties to the new chapter. There were twenty-eight members in Delta Chapter by the month of May, 1956.
On 20 April 1956 the Chapter voted to use the work "DELTA", a geometric symbol having three sides representing Anderson, Marion and Muncie, as its official name. The name "MOUNDS" was considered in order to honor the prehistoric engineers that constructed the lasting monuments on the banks of the White River between Anderson and Muncie. The words "SUMMIT", "MISSISSINEWA" and "WAPAHONI" were also considered.
The charter-day meeting was held on Friday, 16 November 1956 in order that the ceremony could be conducted by an officer of the NSPE. Mr. R. J. Rhinehart, PE, President of NSPE came to Indiana and attended three meetings of ISPE. He spoke to the Anthony Wayne Chapter, presented the charter to Delta, and attended a board meeting the following morning at Indianapolis.
Mr. Henry Estergreen, President of ISPE, Mr. Eugene Easley, PE, National Director of NSPE, Mr. Robert P. Loveland, PE, President-Elect of ISPE, and Mr. R. L. Meek, PE, Indiana State Registration Board, were present for the chapter presentation ceremonies.
Thus, was the beginning ...
